The Crusading Baba or an Unscrupulous Opportunist??
While the ruling party scrambles to appease the crusading baba. Baba Ramdev has left no stone unturned in building an image of a non negotiating crusader ready to jump the gallows for fellow suffering citizen. Media coverage of his intent is ensured thru controversial interviews and public appearance with the original crusader – Anan Hazare..Subliminal planned agenda to erase Anna Hazare’s memory from public mind??One doesn’t know.
In last two years apart from the news of India winning World cup and lonesome news of Sania Nehwal winning medals one hardly recalls any other positive news. Last two years needless to say have been the scams year. The common man’s mind space has been dominated by commonwealth scam, IPL scam, 2Gscam etc..In this chaotic and corrupt scenario the Draft Lokpal bill-in its intent, content and design, potentially can be the most balancing, powerful and game changing governing body/committee to be formed. The draft lokpal bill from its scope, execution time lines and the qualification guidelines for the committee members could be colossally detrimental to the intrinsic powerful corrupt political/ industrial network and nexus.
Anna Hazare’s revolution couldn’t have had a better timing, with all the media focus and increasingly public frustration and low tolerance level, our powerful politician and industrialist are mere sitting ducks,. The draft lokpal bill could be the light at the end of the tunnel to bring in our humongous black money reserves back to our economy, lead to a system with nominal tolerance for corruption..and be a genesis of a more transparent and honest administrative setup.
Anyone associated with bringing in this transformation wouldn’t merely secure a golden mention in the Indian political history but potentially could harness a strong mainline political career. That makes one wonder what are our “Noble” baba’s motivation?
Is it his selfless disposition to eradicate injustice the common man is subjected to or is it his frustration with the pit less corruption in this country or is it an unscrupulous conniving attempt to secure a mainline political career or is he a mere pawn plonked strategically by the corrupt to derail/ dilute this colossal movement.
With all the noise Baba has created before his noble attempt, the first two possibilities seem remote lest time proves me wrong.
The baba in his slimy demeanour has already gone against the Gandhian philosophy by asking for gallows for the accused. He was initially opposed to having PMO in the lokpal purview but oddly has come around.
For the Baba famous for his breathing exercises, lauki recipes, yogic posture and heckling bollywood starlets -this could be the opportune moment and platform to leave all the petty stuff behind and gatecrash into mainline politics.. Sad for Anna Hazare’s noble cause and India’s passive Junta.. a very pessimistic view.. lets wait and watch the next few days where possibly we will witness history will being made..
