Chalta hai na!

In my-mid forties, conventionally a good time to start retirement, fate presented me with two choices a voluntary retirement in my own country or a fresh start in a new country.   With reluctance and deep apprehension at some corner of my heart & unbridled excitement at another, we took a leap of faith. As we landed in the new country and started our life here, amongst the visible stark differences, I noticed efficiency replaced warmth at a DNA level in this country. Zero acceptance against any standard/predefined processes. To share an example, a few bottles of expensive cream which inadvertently made through the Indian customs, found home in UK immigration trash. “Mam, I can’t even get in a bottle of coke if I want to since the day someone decided to blow up a plane using liquid chemicals” was the response to my feeble protests – Polite yet firm- no negotiation. I missed the fuss of porters rushing to pick your luggage as we arrived at the hotel, we had to mind our l...

Tuesday Musing

A memory can be source of delight, comfort, anger, self-pity, misery triggered by the craving of the soul for that moment, the story the heart wants to hear for therapy..

Masterpiece on the wall

Image
One of those days, you wake up to a beautiful morning, look at the lovely view   outside ; Mine is that of the Arabian sea .. with the sunlight streaming thru the   depth of the   monsoon clouds and creating this magnificent illusions of diamonds glittering on this   appealing grayish blue bed   with lonesome ships   scattered   frugally   creating   this   astounding visual landscape.. My heart is filled with a sense of gratitude toward life, almighty; for the faculties to appreciate this view; Gratitude for the peace around me; Gratitude for being in the apartment with this view ..The irony; that’s where is stops.. The mind gets busy with the vagaries of life. The sadness the dwells deep within.. the memories of a   lost parent.. the fact that the loving, comforting   stroke’s, the warm hugs from Ma and Baba   will remain a dream this lifetime.. that only death...

Musings of a Stay at Home Mom ...

The number flashing on my mobile was that of my closest, single, super busy friend.. amidst our general natter, a question-” Tu karti kya hai din bhar?? What do you do the entire day??”  set me thinking- this had reference to my routine while on a sabbatical, post 16 years of chaotic corporate life.. This was not the first time somebody had asked me this maybe not so brusquely(This friend is infamous for her candid viewpoints!!) and yes by the conventional measures I am no longer a part of the dynamic corporate world, I am not busy  upgrading my academics, I am not even a part of any kitty party, not aggressively pursuing any exotic hobby either.. so what am I busy doing ..after pondering on this for a few days..I realised  I was busy living life without the usual stresses of the modern world which is a little knotty to comprehend in  the conventional sense of a happy life –( No  high powered designation with a blue chip,  husband not giving intervi...

The Crusading Baba or an Unscrupulous Opportunist??

While the ruling party scrambles to appease the crusading baba. Baba Ramdev has left no stone unturned in building an image of a non negotiating crusader ready to jump the gallows for fellow suffering citizen. Media coverage of his intent is ensured thru controversial interviews and public appearance with the original crusader – Anan Hazare..Subliminal planned agenda to erase Anna Hazare’s memory from public mind??One doesn’t know. In last two years apart from the news of India winning World cup and lonesome news of Sania Nehwal winning medals one hardly recalls any other positive news. Last two years needless to say have been the scams year. The common man’s mind space has been dominated by commonwealth scam, IPL scam, 2Gscam etc..In this chaotic and corrupt scenario the Draft Lokpal bill-in its intent, content and design, potentially can be the most balancing, powerful and game changing governing body/committee to be formed. The draft lokpal bill from its scope, execution ...

Diversity and Inclusion : The latest corporate fad ??

I was in the process of settling into my new assignment in one of the leading FMCG companies in India, when I got nominated for the first “Diversity and Inclusion workshop” within the organization. Much to annoyance of my boss who was inadvertently missed by HR in the CC list, I chose to attend this workshop. Was really intrigued by the topic and was really keen to explore what the two days entailed. It was well attended by Senior Managers across various functions and the trainers were internal employee’s from various functions, in addition to HR who had been trained extensively on the subject. In the cosy comfortable conference room of a leading five star, the session started with the executives sipping Earl greys and munching the delicious complimentary goodies. As the session progressed after a brief ice breaking session, We were shown films on the diversity, different situations were narrated. The idea was to highlight the subtle exclusions, a diverse employee/vendor/partner is...
